Rainer Robra resigns as Saxony-Anhalt Minister and Chancellery Head

Rainer Robra has announced his resignation from his positions as Minister for Culture and Head of the State Chancellery in Saxony-Anhalt, effective October 5, 2026. Robra’s tenure as head of the State Chancellery spanned more than 24 years, and he had served as the Minister for Culture for approximately ten years.

In response to the resignation, the state cabinet has established an interim arrangement to manage his responsibilities until a new government is formed. State Secretary Gert Zender will transfer from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Tourism, Agriculture, and Forestry to the State Chancellery and the Ministry for Culture. In his new role, Zender will serve as State Secretary, handling the duties of the Head of the State Chancellery as well as the Minister for Europe and Media.

Additionally, Minister for Education Jan Riedel will temporarily assume ministerial responsibility for the cultural sector. Minister President Sven Schulze praised Robra for his expertise and significant contributions to the state’s cultural landscape during his long service.
