Rainer Uukkivi warns that selling a car can expose personal data
Modern automobiles can retain a range of owner information, including phone contacts, call logs, text messages, saved addresses, Wi‑Fi passwords and credentials for streaming services. When the vehicle is sold, these data may be transferred to the new owner through the car's multimedia system, posing a serious privacy risk.
Longo Group Estonia’s executive Rainer Uukkivi advises owners to thoroughly clear all connected devices and accounts before transferring the car. He recommends removing phones, deleting stored accounts, and resetting navigation histories to prevent inadvertent disclosure of personal and corporate information.
