Rainfall triggers water harvesting in Tenamaxtlán and flooding in Torreón
Heavy rains have triggered different responses across various regions in Mexico. In Tenamaxtlán, Jalisco, a new rainwater harvesting system known as ‘Nidos de Lluvia’ has been installed at the local sports unit. This state-driven initiative uses a 5,000-liter cistern and a 1,100-liter tank to collect water from the facility's restroom roofs, aiming to reduce reliance on the municipal water network and promote water conservation.
In Torreón, significant flooding has been reported in the northern sectors, specifically in the Carlos Salinas de Gortari neighborhood, La Rosita, and along the Torreón-San Pedro boulevard. Strong winds accompanying the rain have also caused power outages and malfunctioning traffic lights. Local authorities and State Civil Protection have activated an emergency operation to monitor high-risk zones and respond to citizen reports of water accumulation.
