RAINS project holds 4th General Assembly in Lesvos
The 4th General Assembly of the European RAINS project, focused on combating drought, was held in Lesvos, Greece. Hosted by the Directorate of Rural Economy and Fisheries of the North Aegean Region, the assembly included partners from various European Union member states.
The project focuses on innovative irrigation and water resource management practices to improve water efficiency and adapt agricultural production to drought and extreme weather conditions. RAINS is currently testing ten different irrigation and water management solutions on farms in Greece and Spain to promote the rational use of water and nutrients while enhancing crop resilience.
European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, previously highlighted RAINS at the EU AgRi 2040 conference in Brussels as a model for research with practical impact on water-scarce agriculture. The assembly was coordinated by ELGO-DEMETER, with participation from the North Aegean Region and the Petra Agricultural Cooperative.
