Rain‑slick roads cause fatal crash and traffic violation penalties in Vietnam
In Ninh Binh province, police identified truck driver Đ. T. Q. (born 1992) who ran a red traffic signal on a wet, slippery road on 2 July. The driver was charged under Decree 168/2024 and fined 18–20 million VND with a four‑point licence point deduction for the dangerous violation.
In Lai Châu province, heavy rain caused a dam overflow on the night of 12 July 2026. Motorbike rider Vàng A Lừ (born 2007) and his wife were swept into the swollen stream. The wife survived, but Lừ was found dead a kilometre downstream after rescue teams used excavators to control the water flow and search the area. Authorities warned residents to avoid crossing flooded roads or dam overflows, especially at night, and to monitor weather alerts.
