Rainstorms and thunderstorms hit Greece as temperatures climb above 30 °C

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting many mainland regions of Greece, with the strongest activity expected on 12‑13 June. The Greek Meteorological Service notes high chances of showers exceeding 1 inch on both days, especially in central and northern areas, the Chalcidice peninsula, Eastern Macedonia, the Sporades, Evia, Thrace and parts of the Aegean islands. From 14‑16 June the weather is forecast to become drier and more stable, while temperatures rise toward or just above 30 °C from 15 June onward across most of the country, including Athens. No clear signal of an extreme heatwave has been identified. Winds will generally come from the north at 3‑6 Beaufort, with occasional stronger gusts up to 7 Beaufort in coastal zones. A slight, uncertain chance of localized events may return around 17‑20 June, but overall conditions are expected to improve after the weekend.
