Rainwater harvesting techniques for garden water conservation

In response to the establishment of El Niño, gardeners are encouraged to implement water collection and storage systems to prepare for potential dry spells.

One effective method involves using water butts to collect rainwater from downpipes on houses, barns, or garden sheds. To set up a system, a rainwater diverter kit, hacksaw, drill, spirit level, and bricks or blocks for a stand are required. The process involves placing the container on a stable, level stand and installing a diverter into the downpipe to channel water into the storage unit.
