Raisen District Jail: CCTV shows inmate shooting guard during escape attempt

CCTV footage has surfaced showing a violent attempt by an inmate to escape from the Raisen District Jail in Madhya Pradesh on September 2. The video, which went viral approximately nine to ten days after the incident, depicts the accused, Nilesh Thakur, an individual facing murder charges, attempting to flee the facility.

During the confrontation, Thakur used a country-made pistol to shoot jail guard Digvijay Singh Tomar. The footage shows the inmate also striking the guard in the head and throwing chili powder into his eyes to incapacitate him. Despite being shot and attacked, Tomar managed to restrain the inmate until other staff members arrived to secure the situation.

Investigations revealed that Thakur had allegedly managed to have an illegal firearm smuggled into the jail. Authorities have arrested two individuals for assisting the inmate in his escape attempt, while another accomplice remains at large. Following the security breach, the jailer, RK Chaure, has been suspended.
