Raito Kataoka wins OPBF light flyweight title in third pro fight
Professional boxer Raito Kataoka, known as “The Thunder,” captured the OPBF light flyweight title at Korakuen Hall on October 29. In his third professional bout, the 20-year-old defeated the number one ranked Al-Al Andres via a ninth-round TKO.
Kataoka tied the domestic record for the fastest achievement of an OPBF title in just three fights. Following the victory, Ohashi Gym chairman Hideyuki Ohashi gave the green light for Kataoka to challenge for a world title in his fourth professional match. If successful, Kataoka would break the existing Japanese record for the fastest ascent to a world championship.
Kataoka dominated the match using high-speed combinations and effective bodywork, neutralizing Andres, a seasoned fighter with 19 wins and previous world title experience. Ohashi praised Kataoka’s defensive skills, comparing his style to former world champion Kaku Kawashima.
