Raj Thackeray criticizes DJ culture and North Indian influences in Maharashtra festivals

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has criticized the growing influence of DJ culture and certain modern practices during traditional festivals in Maharashtra. Speaking at a party meeting in Thane, Thackeray questioned why festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Dahi Handi are increasingly adopting customs he associates with North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, such as women dancing on stages during celebrations.

Thackeray emphasized that festivals should be celebrated according to Maharashtra's historical traditions and cultural heritage. He also expressed concerns regarding the use of high-decibel sound systems and laser lights, noting that excessive noise can pose health risks to those with heart conditions and laser lights can damage eyesight.

Additionally, the MNS leader warned of potential attempts to incite communal tension during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival. He urged members of the Hindu and Muslim communities to remain vigilant against efforts to create unrest that might distract from other issues.
