Raja Muthupandi wins silver at Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi secured a silver medal in the men’s 65 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, lifting a total of 286 kg (126 kg in the snatch and 160 kg in the clean & jerk). President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on social media, praising his performance and expressing pride in India’s growing medal tally.

India’s programme on 27 July featured a full slate of events, with athletes competing in athletics, boxing, swimming, artistic gymnastics and weightlifting. Highlights included high‑jump finals with competitors such as Sarvesh Kushare and Tejas Shirs, and expected medal bids from weightlifters Gyaneshwari Yadav, Bindyarani Devi and V. Ajay Babu. The schedule underscored India’s strong medal prospects across multiple sports at the Games.
