Rajang (Sibu) Dapu Clan Association hosts Mid-Autumn Festival banquet

The Rajang (Sibu) Dapu Clan Association held its 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival banquet on September 19 at the Li Hua Hotel. The event focused on the importance of cultural preservation and maintaining community ties among the younger generation.

Chien Chin Yee, the State Assemblyman for Bukit Asah, noted that while younger generations may have different lifestyles and less familiarity with ancestral dialects and customs, cultural heritage can be passed down through simple gatherings and shared meals. He emphasized that clan associations serve as vital platforms for youth to understand their roots and the history of their ancestors.

Datuk Low Ming Hua, president of the association, highlighted specific Hakka Dapu traditions, such as the ‘worshipping the moon’ ritual involving offerings of mooncakes, peanuts, and pomelos. Organizing chairman Chia Yong Ching expressed hope that more young members would join the association to ensure that the Dapu dialect and spirit of hard work and unity continue to thrive.
