Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma launches drone seeding for tree planting

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated a drone‑seeding operation at the Van Mahotsav ceremony in Udaipur, urging a mass movement for tree plantation to combat climate change. He highlighted rising sea levels, temperature spikes and biodiversity loss as urgent threats and called for public participation in forest conservation.

The state announced its Mission Hariyalo Rajasthan, aiming to plant 50 crore saplings over five years; about 20 crore have already been planted, with a further 10 crore targeted for the current monsoon. Saplings will be geo‑tagged and maintained by Van Mitras and Vriksh Mitras, while new Namo Nurseries and Namo Vans will be set up at district and Panchayat levels. Sharma referenced the Prime Minister’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign and Modi’s recent UN Champions of the Earth award, and recalled the historic sacrifice of Amrita Devi Bishnoi and her community in defense of trees.
