Rajasthan faces decade's worst drought, says Ashok Gehlot

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has stated that the state is currently facing its largest drought in a decade. He reported that approximately 2,000 villages in the Jodhpur district are experiencing drought-like conditions. Other heavily affected areas include 2,460 villages in Barmer, 1,216 in Balotra, and 961 in Jaisalmer.

Gehlot highlighted a growing crisis regarding livestock fodder, noting that prices in Jodhpur, Barmer, and Balotra have risen significantly, with fodder reportedly selling for 1,200 rupees per mann. This price surge is placing an economic burden on livestock owners and threatening animal welfare.

The former Chief Minister called on the government to take immediate action by capping fodder prices, ensuring the availability of drinking water, and preparing employment and wage programs for workers in affected regions to mitigate the impact on families.
