Rajasthan farmer loses ₹5 lakh after buried cash is destroyed by termites
A farmer in the Balotra district of Rajasthan, India, has lost approximately ₹5 lakh in cash after burying it in his field to prevent theft or family spending. Mangilal Meghwal, a resident of Pachpadra, reportedly buried the money in a plastic bag nearly a year ago after selling a plot of land, intending to use the funds to build a room on his farm.
Due to forgetfulness, the farmer was unable to locate the exact burial spot within his 10-bigha field. The money was eventually uncovered by a tractor during field preparation for the sowing season. However, upon discovery, the family found that the ₹500 notes had been severely damaged and eaten by termites while underground.
The family attempted to exchange the mutilated currency at State Bank of India branches in Pachpadra and Balotra, but bank officials refused to accept the notes due to their condition. They were advised to contact a bank in Jaipur to resolve the matter, a task the family finds difficult due to financial constraints and lack of information.
