Rajasthan Fisheries Department holds aquaculture training in Udaipur and Salumber

The Fisheries Department of the Rajasthan government, in collaboration with the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, organized aquaculture orientation and reach programs in Udaipur and Salumber to empower fish farmers and entrepreneurs.

In Udaipur, 65 participants, including fish farmers, contractors, and cooperative members, received training on modern aquaculture techniques. Discussions focused on increasing production through cage culture, shrimp farming, and intensive fish farming. Officials highlighted that Rajasthan has 4.30 lakh hectares of water area available for fisheries and encouraged the use of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.

In Salumber, the ‘Aqua Reach’ program targeted 62 members of fishery producer cooperative societies at Jaisamand and Daya Dam. The session provided information on departmental schemes, subsidies, and the operation of cooperatives. Experts discussed challenges faced by tribal fishermen under the zero-revenue model at Jaisamand and recommended regular audits, timely elections for cooperatives, and registration on the National Fisheries Digital Platform.
