Rajasthan government announces major school infrastructure overhaul
The Rajasthan government has announced a major roadmap to overhaul school infrastructure, allocating approximately 12,500 crore rupees between 2026 and 2029. The plan includes constructing 3,587 new school buildings, creating over 83,000 new classrooms, and renovating 22,589 existing schools. Additionally, 20 percent of the annual 5 crore rupee MLA local area development fund will now be mandatorily directed toward school development.
This initiative follows revelations that 611 government schools in the state lack their own buildings, and thousands of others lack basic amenities like toilets and drinking water. In a specific local development, the government approved 18 lakh rupees for a primary school in Sanganer that had been forced to operate out of a cowshed due to a dilapidated building.
In a separate security measure, the Haryana government has implemented strict new protocols for government schools, prohibiting unauthorized entry by outsiders and parents to ensure student safety. Violators may face legal action under various acts, including the POCSO Act.
