Rajasthan High Court seeks govt reply on OBC quota for Zila Pramukh posts

The Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the state government seeking an explanation regarding the number of seats reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) for Zila Pramukh posts in upcoming Panchayati Raj elections.

A bench led by Justice Anoop Dhand noted that while the total number of Zila Pramukh positions increased from 33 to 41 following district reorganization, the number of OBC-reserved seats remained stagnant at five. The court questioned why OBC representation was not increased proportionately to reflect the growth in total posts.

The petition, filed by Radheram Godara and represented by lawyers Arvind Sharma and Anand Sharma, argues for a fresh calculation of OBC reservations to ensure fair representation while remaining within the 50 percent constitutional limit set by the Supreme Court. The petition also raises concerns regarding the non-disclosure of the OBC Commission report. The next hearing is scheduled for September 8.
