Rajasthan High Court to hear plea for tax audit deadline extension

The Rajasthan High Court is scheduled to hear a plea seeking an extension for the Tax Audit Report (TAR) deadline for Assessment Year 2026-27. The petition, filed by the Rajasthan Tax Consultant’s Association (RTCA), requests moving the current deadline of September 30, 2026, to October 31, 2026.

Tax professionals argue that the current timeframe is insufficient to complete thorough audits. The process requires reconciling complex data from various sources, including bank statements, GST returns, TDS/TCS records, and Annual Information Statements (AIS).

In addition to the audit report extension, associations have requested that the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for affected taxpayers be extended to November 30, 2026. Various regional tax associations across India have previously submitted representations to the Finance Ministry regarding these deadline concerns.
