Rajasthan civic polls: Nominations begin for 10,245 wards

The nomination process for Rajasthan’s urban local body elections has commenced, covering 10,245 wards across 309 urban local bodies. On the first day of filing, 967 candidates submitted a total of 1,144 nomination papers.

Due to the Raksha Bandhan holiday and Sunday, the official nomination period, which runs from August 27 to August 31, is effectively limited to three days: August 27, 29, and 31. While independent candidates have already begun filing, major political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress have not yet finalized their candidate lists, with announcements expected around August 28 or 29.

Candidates must provide various documents, including identity proof, affidavits, and property details. For reserved wards, caste certificates are mandatory. Security deposits are set at 2,000 rupees for general candidates and 1,000 rupees for women and reserved categories. In Jaipur, the Municipal Corporation has established 15 Returning Officer offices to manage the process.
