Rajasthan monsoon causes flooding in Jaipur, Dholpur as rain persists

Heavy monsoon rains swept across Rajasthan on 29 July, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for 22 districts and warning that active rainfall will continue until 2 August. In the state capital Jaipur, intense downpours flooded major roads such as Tonk Road, Ram Bag and Parakota, disrupting traffic and forcing commuters to seek shelter. In Dholpur’s Rajakhenda market, streets and low‑lying areas were submerged, affecting local trade.

The IMD attributed the surge to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that shifted the monsoon trough into the region. Forecasts call for heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Udaipur and Kota divisions on 30‑31 July, while temperatures fell 2‑5 °C in many districts, offering relief to farmers but creating water‑logging challenges in urban areas. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flood‑prone zones, and have prepared drainage and emergency response measures. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The rain also brought cooler evenings to several districts, with temperatures in some northern areas remaining above 40 °C during the day. Overall, the monsoon provided much‑needed moisture for agriculture while testing the region’s infrastructure and emergency preparedness.
