Rajasthan municipal elections: BJP and Congress face internal dissent

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress are facing significant internal challenges as the Rajasthan municipal elections approach. In Jaipur, the BJP has implemented a strategic candidate selection process, fielding eight Muslim candidates in areas traditionally influenced by Congress. Additionally, the BJP has allocated 35 percent of its 150 tickets to women, including prominent figures such as former mayor Jyoti Khandelwal.

Congress has focused its nominations on organizational strength, including block presidents and existing councilors. However, both major parties are grappling with internal dissent. In several regions, including Pali, Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Udaipur, dissatisfaction over ticket distribution has led to threats of rebellion. Some local leaders and activists are reportedly considering contesting as independents after being bypassed for official party nominations.
