Rajasthan Panchayat elections face youth influence and staff voting hurdles
Rajasthan's upcoming Panchayat elections are set to see a significant influence from young voters. Out of approximately 40.3 million total voters, the 18-35 age demographic accounts for about 46 percent, with 1.4 million individuals voting for the first time. Key issues for this group include employment, migration, education, skill development, internet access, and agricultural income.
However, logistical challenges threaten the voting rights of election staff. Approximately 300,000 government employees and police officers deployed for election duty may be unable to cast their own votes. Because counting begins immediately after polling concludes, there is currently no provision for postal ballots for these workers, potentially preventing those stationed in rural areas from reaching their own polling stations.
