Rajasthan political activity intensifies ahead of local body elections

Political activity has intensified in Rajasthan ahead of the upcoming local body elections. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma conducted a roadshow in Bhilwara to support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates, an event seen by the ruling party as a key part of its campaign strategy.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of the Indian National Congress criticized the roadshow, labeling it a “major failure” of the BJP government. Gehlot argued that the necessity for a Chief Minister to hold such a roadshow for municipal elections indicates growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration, specifically citing issues with broken roads, poor sewage systems, and a lack of development.

In Alwar, the Congress party released its election manifesto for the municipal corporation elections, with leaders calling on workers to mobilize. Meanwhile, in Bhilwara, an independent candidate, Sunny Od, was arrested by police in connection with a 2023 assault case after being on the run for approximately two years.
