Rajasthan political tensions rise over Assembly session and historical disputes

Political tensions are rising in Rajasthan ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of the State Assembly. During an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Vasudev Devnani, the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress clashed over the session's duration and agenda.

Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully has demanded a session lasting 20 to 25 days to address critical public issues, including concerns for students, youth, women, and laborers. He accused the BJP government of attempting to avoid accountability and limiting the session to a short period. Conversely, the BJP indicated the session might conclude as early as August 25, asserting readiness to answer questions.

Separately, a controversy has emerged regarding the song ‘Vande Mataram’. Following allegations by Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning the Congress party’s conduct during an Independence Day program, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot defended the Congress party. Gehlot highlighted the party’s historical ties to the song during the freedom struggle and accused the BJP of attempting to rewrite history.
