Rajasthan CM and Tamil Nadu Governor slash convoy sizes, postpone event to save fuel

On May 16, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma travelled to Thikariya village in an electric bus, highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fuel conservation, and announced the temporary postponement of the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM‑2026) originally set for late May, citing the need to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption.

Around the same time, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the governor in charge of Tamil Nadu (and also referenced for Kerala), ordered a reduction of his official security convoy from ten vehicles to four (Kerala version from nine to six). The decision was directly linked to Modi's appeal to curb petrol and diesel use and promote public transport and car‑pooling.

These actions are part of a broader push by Indian officials, including other state chief ministers, to demonstrate responsible resource use amid global energy‑market concerns.
