The Rajasthan state government has postponed the reservation lottery for Panchayati Raj institution wards. Originally scheduled for August 17 and 18, the lottery process has been rescheduled to September 17 and 18.

While the lottery for 10,245 wards in 309 urban bodies will proceed as planned on Monday, the lotteries for Panchayat Samiti heads, members, District Council members, and Sarpanch/Ward Panch reservations have been delayed by one month. The Panchayati Raj Department cited the possibility of elections occurring in a second phase following a High Court order to conduct elections by November.

The delay comes amid discussions regarding OBC reservation levels. Current data indicates that out of 10,245 wards, 1,933 are reserved for OBCs, resulting in an 18.86 percent reservation rate, which is lower than the 21 percent being sought by some leaders. Additionally, 33 percent of wards in every category are reserved for women.
