BJP wins Rajasthan local body elections with 4,179 wards

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a significant victory in the Rajasthan urban local body elections, winning 4,179 wards across 309 civic bodies. The Indian National Congress followed with 3,613 wards. The BJP achieved clear majorities in four of the state's ten municipal corporations, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Bhilwara, and Kota. In contrast, the Congress secured a majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation.

Despite the BJP's overall dominance, independent candidates emerged as major political players, winning 2,273 wards. These independents are expected to act as kingmakers in several municipal councils and corporations where neither major party achieved a clear majority. Notable upsets occurred in several regions, including Bharatpur, the hometown of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, where independents won 36 out of 65 wards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the results as a triumph of truth and a mandate for the government's policies. Meanwhile, the Congress party attributed its losses to unfair delimitation and accused the ruling party of misusing government machinery. The election results serve as a significant political indicator ahead of future state and national elections.
