Rajcza officials propose new official swimming area

Local officials in Rajcza are pushing for the establishment of an official swimming area to boost regional tourism. Zbigniew Kopeć, a municipal councilor and village head, has submitted a motion to begin procedures for creating a safe, regulated bathing site on the Ujsoła stream by the 2027 summer season.

Proponents argue that an official status is necessary to allow for cleaning the stream bed, regular water quality testing, and the provision of lifeguard services. Adam Iwanek, a county councilor, noted that the municipality must rely on tourism and requires such attractions to encourage longer visitor stays.

However, challenges remain regarding safety and regulation. Vice-mayor Jarosław Zeman highlighted the unpredictable nature of mountain streams and noted that the state water management agency, Wody Polskie, is unlikely to permit the use of nearby hydrotechnical structures. Despite these concerns, the municipality has not ruled out further investigation into the matter.
