Rajeev Ram retires from professional tennis after US Open loss

Former doubles world number 1 Rajeev Ram has announced his retirement from professional tennis following a loss in the men’s doubles semifinals at the 2026 US Open. Ram and his longtime partner Joe Salisbury were defeated 6-3, 6-4 by the sixth-seeded German duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.

Ram’s career is marked by significant achievements, including reaching the world number 1 ranking in 2023 and winning 32 ATP doubles titles. He secured six Grand Slam titles, consisting of four men’s doubles and two mixed doubles trophies. Notably, Ram and Salisbury were the only men’s doubles partnership to win three consecutive US Open titles, achieved between 2021 and 2023, and maintained a 20-match winning streak at the tournament.

In his final appearance, Ram was joined by his family, former college coach Craig Tiley, and former doubles partner Eric Butorac. Ram, an Indian American from Indiana, concluded a 26-year relationship with the US Open, having made a record 26 consecutive appearances in the men’s doubles event.
