At least nine people died after a vehicle carrying 11 passengers was swept away by an overflowing drain in the Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. The incident occurred near Padana village in Sarangpur tehsil at the Jhiri drain following heavy monsoon rainfall.

The victims, who were all members of the same family from Satwas in Dewas, were reportedly traveling to Kadawat village to attend a religious ceremony. Local officials stated that the driver was repeatedly warned by bystanders not to attempt to cross the submerged culvert, but he proceeded despite the strong currents.
