Rajnath Singh reviews performance of 16 Indian defence PSUs

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted an annual performance review of 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) in New Delhi, highlighting significant growth in India's defence manufacturing sector. During the 2025-26 financial year, India's total defence production reached approximately Rs 1.8 lakh crore, with DPSUs contributing Rs 1.29 lakh crore.

The DPSUs reported a combined turnover of Rs 1.29 lakh crore, a 15.4% increase from the previous year, and a cumulative profit after tax of Rs 23,136 crore. Notably, defence exports by these entities surged by 151.2% compared to the previous financial year. As part of the review, seven major DPSUs—including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, and Bharat Electronics Limited—presented dividend cheques totaling Rs 3,951 crore to the government.

Minister Singh emphasized that the progress of these undertakings is a “national security imperative.” He urged the companies to focus on reducing import dependency, achieving global quality standards, and transforming research and development into technological leadership. He also called on MSMEs to invest in technology and foster partnerships to support the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision and the goal of becoming a global leader in niche technology areas.
