Rajouri walnut crop provides economic boost to farmers

A bumper walnut crop in the Kotranka-Budhal region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district is providing significant economic opportunities for local farmers and workers. The Horticulture Department has been actively promoting walnut cultivation by introducing new varieties and conducting awareness camps to encourage local participation.

Under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme, walnuts are designated as the primary product for the Rajouri district. Local farmers report that government subsidies and high-density varieties are aiding production. Officials note that walnut cultivation offers a viable path for self-employment in areas where traditional job opportunities are limited.
