Rajpal Yadav defends legacy amid ₹9 crore legal dispute

Indian actor Rajpal Yadav has addressed his ongoing legal and financial difficulties, which stem from a long-running cheque-bounce dispute involving approximately ₹9 crore. The matter originated in 2010 when Yadav reportedly borrowed ₹5 crore from Murli Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. Following the film's poor commercial performance, the debt grew due to interest and other liabilities.

In July 2026, the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in seven cheque-bounce cases, sentencing him to three months of simple imprisonment for each case, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Yadav defended his professional legacy, stating that his financial troubles should not overshadow his decades-long career in Indian cinema. He emphasized his dedication to his craft, describing himself as a ‘student of Indian cinema’ and a ‘priest of theatre and films.’ Despite the legal proceedings, Yadav noted his continued popularity with fans, mentioning that he still receives significant public attention during travel.
