Rajshahi University students protest after student assault at railway station

Students from Rajshahi University (RU) staged protests, including burning railway tracks and vandalizing the Rajshahi railway station, following the alleged assault of a student by railway security personnel.

The victim, Ayub Ali, a third-year student in the Department of Islamic History and Culture, was reportedly beaten by Ansar members and other individuals at the station around 9:30 PM on Sunday. Ali was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where his condition is described as critical and he remains under observation.

In response to the incident, students organized a protest that included blocking railway lines and damaging station property, such as windows and chairs. The protest led to the delay of the intercity Dhumketu Express heading to Dhaka.

In the wake of the unrest, railway authorities have temporarily suspended four members of the Railway Security Force (RNB) suspected of involvement in the incident. Student leaders from the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RAKSU) have demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible, warning of further escalations if their demands are not met.
