Rakan Al-Thani detained in Munich over Málaga CF investigation

Rakan Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari family involved in the management of Málaga CF, has been detained at Munich Airport in Germany. The arrest occurred while he was attempting to board a flight to Doha. This action follows an international arrest warrant issued in July by Spanish authorities, which also targets his father, Abdullah Al-Thani, and his brothers, Nasser and Nayef.

The judicial proceedings in Málaga involve allegations of misappropriation, unfair administration, and the imposition of abusive agreements during the family's management of the football club. Investigations by the Provincial Police Money Laundering Group suggest that approximately 7.3 million euros were allegedly extracted through a network of shell companies.

Reported irregular expenses include millions of euros for private travel, luxury vehicle deposits, and compensation for a failed marina project in Marbella, alongside significant salaries paid to the Al-Thani family members as board members. The detention marks a significant development in a long-running legal case that has impacted the institutional stability of Málaga CF.
