Rakesh Mehta, a former Chief Secretary of Delhi and 1975-batch IAS officer, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Noida on September 6. His body was discovered by security guards after family members were unable to reach him via telephone.

Police recovered a suicide note at the scene in which Mehta reportedly cited mental and health issues as the reasons for his decision. Mehta, 74, had a prominent career in the Delhi administration, serving under former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. He held several key positions, including Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and was a central figure in the administrative execution of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

During his tenure as Chief Secretary from 2007 to 2010, he was credited with overseeing major infrastructure, transport, and power projects in the capital. Following his death, his remains were cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium on Monday. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
