Raksha Bandhan 2026: Auspicious timing and astrological alignments

Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2026. This year's festival features several significant astrological occurrences, including a lunar eclipse and the Panchak period.

According to astrological calculations, the Bhadra period—a time traditionally considered inauspicious for tying rakhis—will end on the night of August 27. Consequently, there will be no Bhadra shadow on the day of Raksha Bandhan, allowing for uninterrupted celebrations. The lunar eclipse occurring on this day will not be visible in India, meaning the religious restrictions associated with 'Sutak' will not apply to the region.

The Panchak period, which begins on August 27, will continue through August 31. While Panchak restricts certain specific activities, scholars suggest it will not negatively impact the Raksha Bandhan festivities. The festival coincides with the Shravani Purnima, with the Purnima Tithi expected to end on the morning of August 28.
