Raksha Bandhan festival expected to drive 30,000 crore rupees in Indian business
The Raksha Bandhan festival is expected to generate over 30,000 crore rupees in business across India, with the sale of rakhis alone estimated to reach approximately 25,000 crore rupees. According to Praveen Khandelwal, National General Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), shopping activity has reached its peak in major markets, including Delhi's Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar.
This year's market trends show a significant demand for themed rakhis inspired by national initiatives and government schemes. Popular designs include ‘Viksit Bharat’, ‘Modi Guarantee’, ‘Brahmos’, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, and ‘Lakhpati Didi’ rakhis. While youth and children are showing high interest in ‘Brahmos’ and ‘Rashtra Raksha Sutra’ designs, women are gravitating toward ‘Nari Vandan’ and ‘Lakhpati Didi’ rakhis, which emphasize women's empowerment.
Additionally, there is a growing interest in regional artisanal rakhis, such as Jaipur's Sanganeri art, Assam's tea leaf rakhis, and Bihar's Madhubani art. Eco-friendly options, including seed rakhis and those made from natural materials, are also seeing increased demand.
