Rakuten expands mobile network capabilities and hospitality services

Rakuten Group executives recently shared updates regarding the strategic direction of Rakuten Mobile and its integration within the broader Rakuten ecosystem. A key focus is the upcoming conclusion of KDDI roaming services for most areas by late September 2026. To mitigate potential coverage gaps, Rakuten plans to launch a direct-to-smartphone satellite communication service in collaboration with AST SpaceMobile within 2026.

Rakuten Mobile reported high synergy with other group services, noting that 88.2% of its mobile users also utilize other Rakuten services. The company is also enhancing its 'Rakuten Link' app with AI features, including an AI concierge for shopping and an AI call summarization tool that provides transcription and summaries.

In the hospitality sector, Rakuten STAY has opened the 'Rakuten STAY TERRACE Kinosaki Riverside' in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture. The 24-room facility features specialized amenities such as private hot spring baths, saunas, and dog-friendly accommodations.
