Rakuten Group reports first quarterly net profit in six years
Rakuten Group reported its second-quarter results for the period ending June 2026, achieving its first quarterly net profit attributable to owners of the parent in six years, totaling 7.7 billion yen. The group's consolidated revenue reached a record 665.5 billion yen, an 11.6% increase year-on-year.
The fintech segment drove significant growth, bolstered by changing interest rate environments. Rakuten Securities saw record operating profits of 20.9 billion yen, aided by the expansion of NISA accounts, while Rakuten Bank's deposit balance rose to 13.3 trillion yen. To enhance synergies, the group plans to reorganize Rakuten Bank, Rakuten Card, and Rakuten Securities HD into a single entity in October 2026.
In the mobile segment, Rakuten Mobile continued to reduce its losses, with an operating loss of 33.1 billion yen, a 4.1 billion yen improvement from the previous year. Total mobile subscribers reached 10.75 million, up 1.78 million year-on-year. Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose to 2,921 yen. The company is also focusing on satellite communication technology and expanding its 4G and 5G infrastructure.
