Rakuten Viber survey reveals Hungarian parents' views on children's online safety
A survey conducted by Rakuten Viber involving over 35,000 respondents in Hungary reveals that nearly two-thirds of parents believe their children are more informed about online safety than they are themselves. Specifically, 42% of respondents stated their children possess better knowledge of digital risks.
Despite this perceived digital literacy among youth, communication regarding online safety remains infrequent within families. Only 21% of parents report discussing digital threats regularly, while 47% only address the topic occasionally when a specific issue arises. One-quarter of respondents stated they almost never discuss online safety with their children.
The primary concerns identified by families include contact with strangers (23%), online bullying (17%), misuse of personal data (15%), and online scams (14%). Other concerns mentioned were excessive internet use (13%) and exposure to inappropriate content (12%).
