Raúl Alfonsín's former home to become democratic memory space
The six children of former Argentine President Raúl Alfonsín have donated his former residence in Chascomús to the local municipality. The donation was formalized following the unanimous approval of ordinance 6022/26 by the local Deliberative Council.
Located at the corner of Mitre and Crámer, the colonial-style building will be transformed into the ‘Casa Raúl Alfonsín – Espacio Cultural y Patrimonial’. Rather than a traditional museum, the site is intended to serve as a cultural and heritage space dedicated to preserving the democratic memory, values, and critical thought of the former leader.
Planned features for the site include a specialized library, a documentary archive, an interpretation center, and areas for conferences and exhibitions. The project aligns with the ‘Km 0 de la Democracia’ initiative launched by Mayor Javier Gastón to establish Chascomús as a historical landmark for Argentine democracy.
