Raúl Asencio acquitted of explicit video charges

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been acquitted by a Spanish court of charges involving the distribution of an explicit video featuring a minor. The case, which originated from an incident at a beach club in Gran Canaria in June 2023, resulted in the charges against the 23-year-old being withdrawn.

While Asencio was cleared, three of his former teammates from the Real Madrid academy were convicted of child pornography. They received suspended one-year prison sentences, mandatory sexual re-education courses, a two-year restraining order against the victims, and a three-year ban from working with minors.

In a statement, Asencio expressed relief at the judicial decision, noting the difficulty of facing public opinion and media reports before the legal process concluded. Separately, reports indicate the player has faced other disciplinary scrutiny, including a court-ordered license withdrawal and fine following a driving offense.
