Raúl Jiménez draws criticism for wearing England jersey on World Cup break

Mexican forward Raúl Jiménez, then playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, was photographed during his vacation after Mexico’s 3‑2 loss to England in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup wearing an England jersey – and also a South Korean jersey. The images went viral on social media, where many fans condemned the gesture as disrespectful to the Mexican team.

Jiménez’s partner, Daniela Basso, responded on Instagram, saying they are proud Mexicans, love their country, and that the rivalry stays on the pitch. She highlighted the personal and professional ties Jiménez has with England and expressed that celebrating success elsewhere does not diminish their support for Mexico.

The episode coincided with news that Jiménez, after ending his contract with Fulham, will report to Wolverhampton Wanderers for the upcoming Championship season.
