Raúl Martins extradited from Mexico to Argentina for human trafficking

Mexican authorities have extradited Raúl Luis Martins, a former Argentine intelligence agent, to Argentina to face charges of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and money laundering. The extradition was finalized at the Cancún International Airport following a long legal battle in which Martins' defense filed numerous appeals to prevent his transfer.

Martins, 77, is accused of leading a criminal organization known as 'Zona Divas' that operated between 2010 and 2019. The group allegedly used various commercial establishments, including bars and clubs in the Riviera Maya region, to facilitate the sexual exploitation of women. Investigations also suggest links between his activities and organized crime groups.

Martins had been in Mexico since 2003 and was detained in Cancún in 2019 while attempting to travel to Belize. He will now face trial in Buenos Aires before the National Criminal and Correctional Federal Court Number 1.
