Raúl Martínez calls for investigation into RD$2.6 billion state loss

Raúl Martínez, Secretary of Legal Affairs for the Fuerza del Pueblo party, has requested that the General Directorate of Government Ethics and Integrity (DIGEIG) investigate officials and lawyers from the General Directorate of National Assets (Bienes Nacionales). The request follows reports that the Dominican State may be forced to pay approximately RD$2,693.9 million due to procedural inaction.

The issue stems from a judicial process involving land on José Contreras Avenue in the National District. While the Superior Administrative Court had set the compensation at over RD$2,693 million, Bienes Nacionales had contested this, arguing the amount should be closer to RD$120.2 million. However, the Supreme Court of Justice was unable to review the institution's arguments because the cassation appeal expired due to three years of procedural inactivity.

Martínez emphasized that given the massive scale of public funds at risk, the incident should not be dismissed as a mere procedural error. He called for an investigation to identify those responsible for the file, the existing supervision mechanisms, and why the necessary legal actions were not taken to maintain the appeal's validity.
