Raúl Villa honored by Ecuador's National Assembly
The National Assembly of Ecuador has recognized Raúl Villa for his career spanning over six decades as a musician, composer, and luthier. The recognition honors his contributions to preserving Ecuadorian history and culture.
Villa, a native of Ibarra and founder of a music school bearing his name, has specialized in the construction and repair of string instruments. He noted that his work with the charango—an instrument designed to reflect the identity and life of Ecuador—will be included in a major museum in New York.
During the ceremony, Assembly President Mishel Mancheno and Assemblyman Pablo Jurado presented the honors. Villa expressed his pride in his heritage and called for greater support for artists who often work without sufficient visibility.
