A special election is being held to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the unexpected death of Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. An Emerson College poll of 500 likely voters found Rep. Ralph Norman leading the Republican primary with 22 % support, while Sen. Darline Graham placed second with 19 %.

Norman’s backing is strongest among voters younger than 50 (24 %) and those in their 50s (25 %). Graham draws more support from voters over 70, comprising about 30 % of her base. President Donald Trump endorsed Graham, though 53 % of respondents said the endorsement did not affect their choice and 29 % said it made them more likely to vote for her. Norman has received endorsements from TPUSA, Sen. Rick Scott and Sen. Mike Lee, and has vowed to "nuke the filibuster" if elected. The race follows Norman’s earlier run for governor, where he finished third, and comes as South Carolina’s open primary allows any registered voter to participate.
