Ram Gopal Varma announces ‘Police Company’ film

Director Ram Gopal Varma has announced a new film titled ‘Police Company’, inspired by the career of police officer Daya Nayak. The project will star Harshvardhan Rane in the role of the encounter specialist.

The film aims to explore the evolution of the Mumbai underworld and the subsequent formation of a special police squad. Varma noted that after Dawood Ibrahim established the ‘D Company’ and relocated to Dubai, a power vacuum was created following a split with Chhota Rajan. This vacuum led to increased competition among rival gangs and a surge in criminal activity, drawing recruits from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.

To combat the rising crime, a special police squad was formed, which was involved in encounters resulting in the deaths of over 300 alleged gangsters between 1997 and 2004. The film’s tagline is ‘It Is More Dangerous Than D Company.’
